55-year-old lab tech named Lewis County Health System employee of 2021 | WWTI

LOWVILLE, NY (WWTI) – An employee has been honored for more than five decades of service to the Lewis County health care system.

In late April, the health system named Elsie Herzig as its 2021 Employee of the Year. According to LCHS, Herzig is a clinical laboratory technologist who began her career at the lab in 1967.

Herzig was nominated by LCHS employees, who voted anonymously throughout the year.

The colleague who appointed Herzig said that “she goes above and beyond for the lab department. She had gladly returned several times when the lab was short of staff to lend a hand. She goes above and beyond in service and genuinely cares about her colleagues and the patients she cares for, always sensing if you are depressed or having a bad day and has a way to make the day better.

Herzig commented on the award and his 55-year career with Lewis County.

“Working with dedicated and compassionate colleagues made her decision to return easy. Although a lot has changed over the past 50 years, a warm smile and the quality of care provided to our patients has not changed,” said she said in a press release, “Our patients can go anywhere for their care, so I try to let every patient know that we are grateful that they chose our hospital.”

“Elsie exemplifies our culture of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence,” added LCHS CEO Gerald R. Cayer. “She takes her role seriously and demonstrates the importance of providing quality care while encouraging and positively impacting patients, visitors and colleagues.”

Other nominees for 2021 Employee of the Year were Michelle Miller, RN, nursing home; Allie Carpenter, radiology; Trista Mullin, Finance; Keith Kelly, Dietetics; Rochelle Sullivan, RN, Surgical Services; Duane Carpenter, Physiotherapy; Cierra Halladay, RN, medical-surgical unit; Melinda Andre, nursing home rehabilitation; Brenda Alfano, CNA, nursing home; Jennifer Plank, RN, Home Health; and Julie Emery, FNP-C, Copenhagen Health Center.

All of these employees and Herzig were honored as employees of the month throughout 2021. They were celebrated at a ceremony on April 28, 2022.
