Law college ranked n ° 1 in health law


Georgia State University College of Law offers the best health law program in the country, according to the new 2022 US News & World Report ranking. The program also earned an A + rating from National Jurist preLaw Magazine again this year.

Dean LaVonda Reed attributes the school’s outstanding performance in healthcare law to the breadth and depth of its healthcare law school, which addresses the most important issues across the field of healthcare law. health in their research and teaching.

Erin Fuse Brown, Catherine C. Henson Professor of Law and Director of Center for Law, Health and Society, said, “We are delighted that the College of Law has achieved the # 1 ranking in health law for the first time. Since the centre’s founding in 2004, we have been committed to addressing today’s challenges in health law through high quality educational programs, research and community engagement.

The center offers a JD certificate in health law, dual degree programs with public health and health administration, and an LL.M. concentration for students interested in health law. The Health Law Partnership (HeLP) Legal Services Clinic also passes through the center. The clinic allows students to collaborate with medical and other graduate students, community service and legal experience while working in an interdisciplinary context and addressing the social determinants of health.

Also this year, Bobby Lee Cook law professor Paul Lombardo was named the recipient of the prestigious Jay Healey Teaching Award presented by the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics. The award is essentially an award for lifetime achievement, in recognition of scholarship, passion for teaching health law, mentoring students and other faculty, and being a source inspiration for colleagues and students. Founding Center Director and Emeritus Professor Charity Scott received the award in 2006.

“I first heard about the Faculty of Health Law Award about three decades ago when my University of Virginia mentor Walter Wadlington received it,” Lombardo said. “I am flattered to be able to follow him and so many other great teachers who have been honored in this way.”

The College of Law has consistently ranked among the top 10 health law programs in the country for the past 15 years.
