Newly Hired Nurse Starts Work with Baptist Health System on New Years Day Amid COVID-19 Outbreak


SAN ANTONIO – Baptist Health System shares the story of one of its newly hired RNs, hoping to encourage others to join the field and help alleviate the shortage of healthcare workers.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for healthcare workers has increased rapidly.

There are more patients in need; however, there are also more workers choosing to retire or looking to change careers.

Andrew Smith, 25, said it was a call for him to help members of his community and starting his career while on vacation was an added bonus.

The North Central Baptist Hospital is hosting a hiring event at its location at 520 Madison Oak Drive on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The hospital is looking to fill the following positions: RNs, Respiratory Therapists, RN Case Managers, Imaging Technicians, Experienced Certified Surgical Technician, and Nursing Assistants. Participants interested in one of these positions are requested to bring a copy of their curriculum vitae.
