“This year’s competition has a strong focus on students understanding and expressing the impact that COVID-19 has had not only on them and their families, but also how it has influenced their decision to pursue. a career in health care. With a nationwide shortage of nurses and healthcare professionals, we hope this experience will encourage our young people to enter the healthcare field and make a positive difference in the healthcare landscape,” said E. Yvonne Lewis, GHP Outreach Director and Founder/CEO of the National Center for African American Health Consciousness. Specific guidelines for the scholarship competition are outlined below and can also be found at geneseehealthplan.org.

Two scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded. They must be typed with 1,000 words or more. Genesee Health Plan is Genesee County’s plan for better health that began with a vision to have a community where everyone has an equal and affordable opportunity to live a healthy life. GHP is a nonprofit health care organization that was started in 2001 to provide health care coverage and lifesaving services to uninsured residents of Genesee County. The plan has provided more than 90,000 county residents with doctor visits, cancer screenings, prescription medications, x-rays and many other life-saving services since 2001. All essays must be submitted by Friday, February 4.
