Third-generation staff member ends career at Mayo Clinic Health System

Dr. Archibald Skemp founded the Skemp Clinic in 1923

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A third-generation staff member at what is now known as Mayo Clinic Health System hangs up his stethoscope.

Dr. Joseph Skemp concluded his 33-year career on Monday.

His grandfather, Dr. Archibald Skemp, founded the Skemp Clinic in 1923.

While technology has changed, there are many things that are still the same, Joseph said.

“The principles are the same in terms of being present, listening, making sure you’re an observer,” he said.

The new retiree plans to spend time with family and friends and travel.
